Both probiotics and prebiotics are types of microorganisms that can help to keep our digestive system functioning properly by supporting the growth and activity of beneficial bacteria in our gut.</p>
<p>These bacteria play a crucial role in many aspects of our health, helping to regulate things like nutrient absorption, digestion, and immune function. Because of their essential importance, it is important to include probiotics and prebiotics in your diet regularly. Whether through foods naturally rich in these nutrients or through supplements, incorporating probiotics and prebiotics into your routine can help you stay healthy from the inside out.</p>
</div><div class="fusion-text fusion-text-2" style="--awb-text-transform:none;"><h1><strong>Here are a few foods to keep in mind:</strong></h1>
<h3><strong>Bananas</strong></h3>
<p>Bananas are a prebiotic food containing indigestible fiber that feeds the good bacteria in your gut. This fiber is called resistant starch, and it can not only help increase the growth of good bacteria, but it can also reduce inflammation and boost immunity.</p>
<h3><strong>Yogurt</strong></h3>
<p>Yogurt is a probiotic food that contains live bacteria cultures. These live cultures can help restore the natural balance of good bacteria in the gut, which can lead to better digestion and a more robust immune system. Look for yogurt that contains live and active cultures, such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis.</p>
</div><div class="fusion-clearfix"></div></div></div></div></div><div class="fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-2 hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling" style="--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-overflow:visible;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;" ><div class="fusion-builder-row fusion-row"><div class="fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-1 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last fusion-column-no-min-height" style="--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;"><div class="fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy"><div class="fusion-image-element fusion-image-align-center in-legacy-container" style="text-align:center;--awb-caption-title-font-family:var(--h2_typography-font-family);--awb-caption-title-font-weight:var(--h2_typography-font-weight);--awb-caption-title-font-style:var(--h2_typography-font-style);--awb-caption-title-size:var(--h2_typography-font-size);--awb-caption-title-transform:var(--h2_typography-text-transform);--awb-caption-title-line-height:var(--h2_typography-line-height);--awb-caption-title-letter-spacing:var(--h2_typography-letter-spacing);"><div class="imageframe-align-center"><span class=" fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-1 hover-type-none"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="820" height="312" alt="prebiotic food garlic" title="prebiotic food garlic" src="https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-garlic.png" class="img-responsive wp-image-8579" srcset="https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-garlic-200x76.png 200w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-garlic-400x152.png 400w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-garlic-600x228.png 600w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-garlic-800x304.png 800w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-garlic.png 820w" sizes="(max-width: 1125px) 100vw, 820px" /></span></div></div><div class="fusion-text fusion-text-3" style="--awb-text-transform:none;"><h3><strong>Garlic</strong></h3>
<p>Garlic is both a probiotic and a prebiotic food. It contains allicin, a compound with antibiotic properties and sulfides, which can help reduce inflammation. Garlic also has inulin, a soluble fiber that feeds the good bacteria in your gut.</p>
<h3><strong>Oats</strong></h3>
<p>Oats are another prebiotic food that contains beta-glucans, a type of soluble fiber that nourishes the good bacteria in your gut. Beta-glucans have been shown to reduce cholesterol levels, improve blood sugar control, and boost immunity. They also make oats an incredibly filling breakfast option.</p>
<h3><strong>Kombucha</strong></h3>
<p>Kombucha is a fermented tea that contains live probiotic cultures. These live cultures can help restore the natural balance of good bacteria in the gut, which can lead to better digestion and a stronger immune system. Kombucha is also rich in antioxidants, protecting against cell damage caused by free radicals.</p>

<p>Sauerkraut is a fermented food made from shredded cabbage rich in probiotics. These beneficial bacteria play an important role in promoting digestive health by supporting the growth of healthy gut flora.</p>
<h3><strong>Kimchi</strong></h3>
<p>Kimchi is a traditional Korean dish made from fermenting vegetables with various herbs and spices. The fermentation process helps to introduce beneficial bacteria into the body, giving kimchi its probiotic properties. Most types of kimchi contain lactobacillus, a type of bacteria that plays a vital role in promoting digestive health and regulating immune function.</p>
<h3><em>If you&#8217;re looking to increase your intake of probiotics and prebiotics, incorporating more of these foods into your diet is a great place to start. Adding just one or two of these foods to your diet daily can significantly impact your gut health.</em></h3>

Following these tips can help ensure that your digestive system works properly, keeping you healthy and happy.</p>
</div><div class="fusion-text fusion-text-7" style="--awb-text-transform:none;"><h1>Here are three practical ways you can speed things up to improve your digestion and your overall health:</h1>
<h3><strong>1. Engage with exercise</strong></h3>
<p>Making exercise a part of your daily routine, particularly with cycling and jogging, can drastically reduce your gut&#8217;s transit time. However, any activity, even walking, helps speed up your digestion. It stimulates the stomach muscles and small intestine to get things moving. Ideally, if you walk after a meal, that will be the most beneficial of all.</p>
<p>Yoga poses may also help you out. If you do just 10 minutes of yoga per day, it will help support your digestion and healthy bowel movements. Twisting postures are beneficial for you here. Plus, it&#8217;s relaxing, and when you&#8217;re relaxed, it puts your nervous system in a parasympathetic state which is essential for your best digestion.</p>
</div><div class="fusion-clearfix"></div></div></div></div></div><div class="fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-6 hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling" style="--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-overflow:visible;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;" ><div class="fusion-builder-row fusion-row"><div class="fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-5 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last fusion-column-no-min-height" style="--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;"><div class="fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy"><div class="fusion-image-element fusion-image-align-center in-legacy-container" style="text-align:center;--awb-caption-title-font-family:var(--h2_typography-font-family);--awb-caption-title-font-weight:var(--h2_typography-font-weight);--awb-caption-title-font-style:var(--h2_typography-font-style);--awb-caption-title-size:var(--h2_typography-font-size);--awb-caption-title-transform:var(--h2_typography-text-transform);--awb-caption-title-line-height:var(--h2_typography-line-height);--awb-caption-title-letter-spacing:var(--h2_typography-letter-spacing);"><div class="imageframe-align-center"><span class=" fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-3 hover-type-none"><img decoding="async" width="820" height="312" alt="hydrate for better digestion water" title="3 water" src="https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/3-water.png" class="img-responsive wp-image-8448" srcset="https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/3-water-200x76.png 200w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/3-water-400x152.png 400w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/3-water-600x228.png 600w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/3-water-800x304.png 800w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/3-water.png 820w" sizes="(max-width: 1125px) 100vw, 820px" /></span></div></div><div class="fusion-text fusion-text-8" style="--awb-text-transform:none;"><h3><strong>2. Flush out with fluids</strong></h3>
<p>If you&#8217;re not keeping your hydration to the proper levels, you can cause more digestive problems. However, what you drink is important, and those sugary drinks or extra coffees aren&#8217;t going to help. Water is by far the most beneficial liquid to drink for digestive health. Herbal teas are also helpful; some may further stimulate your digestive system for improved efficiency.</p>
<p>If you really want to boost your digestion speed, add bone broth to the mix. It hydrates and replenishes your body with electrolytes, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, and a bounty of other minerals.</p>
</div><div class="fusion-clearfix"></div></div></div></div></div><div class="fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-7 hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling" style="--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-overflow:visible;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;" ><div class="fusion-builder-row fusion-row"><div class="fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-6 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last fusion-column-no-min-height" style="--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;"><div class="fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy"><div class="fusion-text fusion-text-9" style="--awb-text-transform:none;"><h3><strong>3. Know the foods that can help you</strong></h3>
<p>Certain foods you eat can throw off your digestion. Refined carbs, sugary and fried things, are often to blame. If you&#8217;ve been eating those foods often, try moving to more beneficial foods to help your digestion.</p>
<p>Probiotic foods are a great choice because they replenish your gut with the good bacteria it needs for healthy digestion and immunity. Yogurt is a popular choice, though if you&#8217;d rather stay dairy-free, you can have kimchi, pickled veggies, tempeh, sauerkraut, kefir, natto, or miso.</p>
<p>More fiber is also essential. In particular, insoluble fiber will help sweep your digestive system clean. If you&#8217;d like to practice good bowel cleansing techniques regularly, choose prebiotic fibers from onions, garlic, leeks, and jicama. And whatever you eat, make sure you chew your food more thoroughly, which helps your stomach digest it better.</p>
<h3></h3>
<h3><em>If you&#8217;re looking for a way to jumpstart your digestion, these three tips can help. Following some simple advice and making a few small changes in your diet and lifestyle can give your digestive system the boost it needs. Have you tried any of these methods? What has worked best for you?</em></h3>

Plenty of rumors abound as to whether these shady garden growers are good or bad for you, but I&#8217;m here to give you the basic insight on what they are.</p>
</div><div class="fusion-text fusion-text-12"><h1>Which fruits and veggies fall into the nightshade category?</h1>
<ul>
<li><strong>Tomatoes</strong> – You&#8217;ll get plenty of vitamins A and C plus lycopene, the antioxidant that can reduce inflammation markers and lower your risk for health issues.</li>
<li><strong>Eggplants</strong> – With plenty of dietary fiber, eggplants keep things moving and could contribute to heart health.</li>
<li><strong>Potatoes</strong> – Potatoes possess plenty of potassium, manganese, and vitamin B6, though the skin should be on to get the most out of them (just clean it vigorously!).</li>
<li><strong>Peppers</strong> – All peppers have an abundance of vitamin C and can help you better absorb iron. In the case of chili peppers, the capsaicin they contain ironically may quell heartburn.</li>
</ul>
<h3><strong>So, what about those rumors? </strong></h3>
<p>They have largely to do with causing inflammation.  Everybody is different, so this isn’t a hard and fast rule. Nightshades contain alkaloids, which may affect those with certain conditions differently. The same goes for another compound they contain called solanine that can irritate arthritis pain, cause inflammation, or lead to digestive issues. It might be best for those with autoimmune diseases to eliminate them from their diets.</p>

Leaky gut sufferers may find eating these foods causes them more gastrointestinal distress. If you&#8217;ve been diagnosed with autoimmune disorders or IBD, you can try an elimination diet to avoid nightshades and see if that helps you feel better.</p>
<p>For those that can eat nightshades without aggravating health conditions, you&#8217;ll be treated to a diet rich in vitamins and minerals plus gobs of fiber. If you do find eliminating nightshades helps you feel better, and you don&#8217;t have any conditions you&#8217;re aware of, it might be time to visit your doctor to determine the root cause.</p>
<p><strong>A lot of people can safely eat nightshades without consequence.</strong></p>
<h3>For those that can&#8217;t, you can substitute sweet potatoes for white potatoes, use pesto sauce rather than tomato sauce when making Italian dishes, eat citrus fruits, and fill your plate with leafy greens.</h3>
<h3>Other ways to lower alkaloid content in nightshades is to avoid green tomatoes and to peel your potatoes completely and then cook them thoroughly before consuming.</h3>
<h3>How do you tolerate nightshades?</h3>

Without a proper balance of the ecosystem that exists there, it leads to countless problems that go well beyond the ordinary everyday ailments.</p>
<p>Your gut has good and bad bacteria, and it&#8217;s essential to get the good bacteria in balance so that you don&#8217;t experience any painful or uncomfortable side effects. Stress and lack of sleep also make for trouble in the gut, but there are some simple tips you can follow to help improve your gut health day by day.</p>
<h3><strong>&#8211; Go whole, unprocessed, and unrefined</strong></h3>
<p>Start by making most of your plate &#8212; fill it with colorful vegetables and plant-based ingredients. These high-fiber foods are among the best to nourish your good gut bacteria, and this is a step you can take with each meal you eat.</p>
<h3><strong>&#8211; Munch on more fat</strong></h3>
<p>Good fat, that is! Things that have omega-3 and monounsaturated fats help reduce inflammation so that healthy bacteria can grow in numbers. Think high-quality extra virgin olive oil and avocados.</p>
</div><div class="fusion-image-element in-legacy-container" style="--awb-caption-title-font-family:var(--h2_typography-font-family);--awb-caption-title-font-weight:var(--h2_typography-font-weight);--awb-caption-title-font-style:var(--h2_typography-font-style);--awb-caption-title-size:var(--h2_typography-font-size);--awb-caption-title-transform:var(--h2_typography-text-transform);--awb-caption-title-line-height:var(--h2_typography-line-height);--awb-caption-title-letter-spacing:var(--h2_typography-letter-spacing);"><span class=" fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-6 hover-type-none"><img decoding="async" width="820" height="312" title="HWL_healthy fat" src="https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HWL_healthy-fat.png" alt class="img-responsive wp-image-7087" srcset="https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HWL_healthy-fat-200x76.png 200w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HWL_healthy-fat-400x152.png 400w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HWL_healthy-fat-600x228.png 600w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HWL_healthy-fat-800x304.png 800w, https://healthywholelife.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/HWL_healthy-fat.png 820w" sizes="(max-width: 1125px) 100vw, 820px" /></span></div><div class="fusion-clearfix"></div></div></div></div></div><div class="fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-12 hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling" style="--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-overflow:visible;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;" ><div class="fusion-builder-row fusion-row"><div class="fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-11 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last fusion-column-no-min-height" style="--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;"><div class="fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy"><div class="fusion-text fusion-text-15"><h3><strong>&#8211; Round out your nutrients with supplements</strong></h3>
<p>Omega-3 fatty acids are an important part of your diet and gut health. Some people turn their nose up at fish, while others have dietary restrictions. If that sounds like you, make sure you get the things you need via high-quality supplements. They come from wild-caught fish, but if you&#8217;re not eating it for whatever reason, you should find a supplement that ensures you get it. Ask your doctor for a high-quality brand recommendation.</p>
<h3><strong>&#8211; Start craving coconut</strong></h3>
<p>Coconut oil and coconut butter both contain MCT oils that help fight inflammation and can be beneficial in losing weight. These are easy to add to nearly any recipe without changing the flavor, so make these a part of your daily routine as often as possible.</p>
<h3><strong>&#8211; Get rid of bad fats</strong></h3>
<p>While good fats help your gut health, the bad fats are doing harm. Ditch the vegetable oils high in Omega-6 fatty acids, and swap them out for the good stuff with coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. This simple switch reaps noticeable benefits.</p>
<h3><strong>&#8211; Make more room for fiber</strong></h3>
<p>Fiber makes you feel fuller longer, and also gives your gut prebiotics, which helps feed that good bacteria. Go for more nuts and seeds, and you&#8217;ll be on the right path.</p>
<h3><strong>&#8211; Fall in love with fermented foods</strong></h3>
<p>Kimchi is a tradtional dish made of spicy, fermented cabbage that frequently accompanies many meals in the Korean cuisine. If you can&#8217;t stand the spice, go for sauerkraut, miso, or tempeh to help get your good bacteria in your gut multiplying.</p>

<h3>It&#8217;s important to note that you won&#8217;t suddenly get rid of any gut issues you have, but if you begin by taking daily steps toward a healthier gut, you will surely enhance your well-being along the way. Be sure to get with your doctor to monitor any health conditions you have and get in the best health of your life with a little help from your gut!</h3>
